Joachim Ritter started late this summer with an initial test/coaching day with Eugene O'Brien, who is recognised by many as the best driver coach in the UK. The Uniroyal FunCup has become well-known thanks to exposure on both Sky Sports
( www.skysports.com ) and Motors TV ( www.motorstv.com ).
After only four coaching sessions, O'Brien was so impressed with Joachim's progress that he invited him to partner in Eugene and Denise's own race team ‘Perry's' at Snetterton on 8th August 2007. They had to rush to get Joachim's license in place and it was finally faxed through late Friday afternoon to allow Joachim to race the following morning. Despite completing less than 20 laps overall in the car as a way of testing, Eugene was not to be disappointed. After a grueling four hours, the pair took the win and Joachim's first race had resulted in victory. Based on this win Joachim was asked to partner again at the final round of the cup series where, despite gear box problems and several safety car incidents, the pair took another dominant win.
Eugene commented, “Joachim has a lot of pace and has managed to transfer it from his bike racing to four wheels. Due to his size he is more suited to cars and it is showing it. He turns up for his test days with serious intent and at the end of every day manages to take a leap forward. Next year is going to be very interesting!”
