After soul searching in Australia I made a decision upon my return to move to London . My deep passion for dance and performance was stronger than ever.I realised it was now or never to try my luck as a performer. Various auditions and even a stint in a Bollywood dance troupe later, I saw an ad for a Burlesque course that changed my life. Intrigued, I contacted the legendary Jo King , founder of the London Academy of Burlesque and signed up. That was really the beginning of this rollercoaster ride. Jo inspired me to feel proud of myself as a woman, teaching me an art form that allowed me to be me and to realise that anyone with deep passion and self belief can realise their dream.
Inspired to create my own burlesque troupe, I held auditions and soon after had my first Hurly Burly Girlys in tow. We opened at the Soho Revue Bar in April 2006 and due to a rapturous reception we were offered our current residency at the Soho Revue Bar and a regular night at the burlesque supper club, Volupte. The majority of our audience is women and I'm proud to say our shows have inspired many of them to take up burlesque just for the fun of it to help them free their minds and bodies and to feel proud of themselves.
It's been almost 3 years now and along the way I have been lucky enough to meet Walt, my Co- Producer and Manager, my girls and all the other incredible people each included through this website and countless beyond, who have made taking Hurly Burly to the next level possible. I couldn't be more grateful and would like to take this opportunity to thank them all for their hard work, incredible generosity and support for this project.
In this, you see my dream coming true - I am proud that I was able to overcome my fears to do what I really wanted. And if a little lass from Lancashire like me can do it, then anyone can.
Enjoy!! |
